The Internet is a bad place

Old man yells at cloud but I'm not yet old tho

The why

Soooo...
As seen from my homepage, all the "proxy" services are now kinda defunct.
Unfortunately that's how they're gonna stay for...probably forever or at least until something significant changes in the way "The Internet" and big corporations work.

Nitter

Nitter has required real accounts to work properly for quite some time. While for our traffic (given the antibot) is relatively feasible to periodically create a new account, it also makes no sense for me as a person.
This is quite sad as nitter was the most used and also the longest service I've hosted but it no longer gives me almost any anonymity if all requests are tied to an account, be it a fake one.
To add to this, recently nitter (the project) got a cease and desist letter which in turn, suspended the entire project. Some forks and "big" instances are still alive but the overall status of the project is unmaintained.

Redlib

Redlib has been affected by reddit changing their api's. It has also been unmaintained for over a year now. Even the big instances work intermittently, some posts load, some don't.

Invidious

Invidious has been affected by youtube requiring weird JS to be solved in order to get access to video streams. While this project is still somewhat supported, hosting it became quite demanding and a hassle as it requires constant maintenance and updating, generally, to keep up with changes from youtube.
This is also a service I have not personally used much and mostly hosted for friends, which have since moved to alternative solutions.

ProxiTok

ProxiTok has been unmaintained for 2 years. The version I hosted was actually older than the latest one on github, which turned out to actually be a good thing since it worked much longer than the "updated" version.
This is a service I actually moderately used and found very handy especially for when you get shared links from TikTok. Unfortunately no version works anymore...

Quetre

Quetre has also been unmaintained for 2 years and last time I checked, all links resulted in a 5xx error. I also do not remember a single time I've ever used this service...or the last time I used quora XD

The end?

Honestly...I don't know...
Some may say that this is mostly the end of self hosting and projects like the ones above. The spam created by LLM's and bots made almost every site (including me) and company take hostile measures to "protect" themselves and their content like captchas, the race between which company collects the most personal data is at full throttle, every service requires a login or paid API's, most maintainers likely don't have time to deal with this amount of bullshit, especially as often as those services update and "patch" whatever entry point there is.
